Wow. The Chinese certainly know how to welcome people. After a fantastic breakfast, we were all bussed off to the 'opening ceremony' where we were welcomed by long lines of children and traditional music. Pretty much everybody in the area came to watch a performance by all the local kids: traditional dancing, singing, acrobatics and sword skills. Then they said "ok, your turn". So it was just as well I brought those juggling balls after all, although I wasn't expecting the whole thing to be on National TV - a bit strange having your first performance of juggling broadcast to 1 billion people... Watching the top officials do the official "first tree plant" (in their suits) was pretty funny. In the afternoon we climbed up the beautiful scenery in these pictures. |
