Day 10 : Boxed culture
Cultural exchange takes on new meaning as we visit two factories today. The first is a bedding factory, which is a real eye opener. 200 16-20 year olds sewing 8 hours a day, 6 days a week, living and eating in the same place as they work. Disturbingly bleak. Next to the packing factory to see cardboard boxes being made. Hmmmmm. The director is very generous, and also lives in the factory. In both the contrast between the factory life and local community is very incongruous. The afternoon is spent working again, but after our huge lunch at the packing factory, with copious amounts of beer, we don't have much energy... In the evening we hitch a ride on the back of a truck into town and find a small room with ping-pong and pool tables, and after a bumpy ride back, drink some of the most foul alcohol known to man.
