The whole day is spent visiting the local
Xiandu town school - 1800 incredibly
enthusiastic, young students. As we are almost
growing used to we are greeted with applause
and cheers. Our senior year escorts look 15
rather than 19 and speak pretty good English,
and "teaching" (without the aid of a local
teacher) to their 50 strong class is an
interesting experience in itself! The new
campus at which we plant the inaugural trees
is impressive (it even has a planetarium). The
evening is spent watching performances of
dance, Urhu, Chinese Opera, and
participating in games, this all concludes in
another disco and too much kindness from the
local people. Ice cream and dumplings
served fresh on the street confirms my
suspicions we are having a good time. |
