CASTLES IN THE AIR tells of her childhood in two castles, and a pre-war lifestyle now long gone. There are memories of the great Scottish families of Hamilton and Montrose.

The Hamilton line is descended from King James II, while the Montrose line descends from The Great Marquis of Montrose, who was sentenced to death in 1650 by the Scottish Parliament for his services to the cause of King Charles II.

Lady Jean is also a cousin of Prince Rainier of Monaco.
